Although each drug has proved effective, none is cure-all. Furthermore they can result in problems if used with other drugs, in particular with nitrate or nitroglycerin cardiac medications, as well as trigger more general side effects, such as are bad headaches, giddiness, upset stomach, facial flushing and - in case of Viagra - visual changes.
The medications are contraindicated in males with cardiac problems, physical deformities of the penis, in men with a predisposition to elongated erections triggered by blood cell disorders, liver and kidney problems, in males taking certain medications for HIV, in those over 65, in men having a recent history of a heart attack, stroke or heart rhythm disorder. There have been cases when males taking the pills died during sex.
